News ArchiveSex and Relationships TalkPupils in Year 10 and Year 11 were fortunate to hear a talk themed around Sex and Relationships Education which is part of the statutory curriculum for secondary aged pupils. Naturally we work closely within Catholic education Service as well as Diocesan guidelines on such matters. The visit to England by Californians Jason & Crystalina Evert was part of a coordinated visit to every Secondary Catholic School in the Lancaster Diocese. Jason and Crystalina had visited Preston last year giving presentations to children and Governors using their simple message of Pure Love and why adolescents in particular should not rush into sexual relationships and seriously consider chastity as their right and not something which was an outdated concept. After giving chastity presentations solo for three years, Jason teamed up with Crystalina in 2002. They now speak internationally to over 100,000 teens each year in Catholic, Christian, and public junior and senior high schools, as well as universities. In their highly popular seminar, "Romance without Regret," the duo provides compelling and uplifting reasons for embracing the concept of virtuous living. Their website is certainly worth a look.
Their inspirational talk provoked significant discussion among our pupils who were eager to ask questions and relate to the Everts’ own experiences of the sometimes traumatic path through sex and relationships in the teenage years. Pupils had completed an attitudinal questionnaire before the talk and then were asked to complete a further questionnaire following the talk so that it may be possible to discern changes in the way young people view matters. The English media followed the Everts as they moved around the Diocese during the week and a number of local and national Radio Talk-In shows debated the issues brought forward. A link to a full copy of the talk is available on the front page of the school website. |
